Summer: month 1

Hello all,

I know I have been away for a long time. It is my summer break and I am not spending too much time on the computer. Here is a replay of some things we have been up to! School ended in a whirlwind and I headed straight down to Tennessee for Matt's brother's graduation. We celebrated and rejoiced! He will be going to UTK in the fall. Oh, college days...

I drove back to Missouri and met with my other ninth grade teacher gals. We toured all through Battle, saw our classrooms again, and made a lot of decisions about the year to come. I am sure I will be blogging about some of those decisions as the year begins.

I have spent a lot of time with my family and with Matt's. I have seen a lot of friends, read a lot of books, and relaxed. Just now am I starting to watch a lot of tv. The best part about summer is getting to cuddle my pooker puppies everyday! Daisy was sick for the past two months with bladder stones and infections, but that is behind us now. She is back to her spunky self. Currently, I am only one book behind for me to meet my goal by the end of the year. In June, I read 6 books! It's been great.

My good friend, Krislyn, got married! It was such a great day and I am glad I was able to be a part of it!

My nephew, Tommy, turned 2! Everyone came into Oak Ridge for it, so it was awesome to see Meghan and Evan, as well as Cyril's family. Matt drove in for the weekend, too.

Matt and I went on a date to see Quidam, a cirque de soleil show, in downtown Nashville! We went to a delicious restaurant called The Southern, and then to Mike's Ice Cream. The show was fun, and it was great to have a good night out with my boo bear.

Summer got off to a good start. Here is to hoping that the next month is just as great! I have some work to do, as well as exercising and visiting with more friends and family. Hello, July!

25

Yesterday was my 25th birthday. Quarter century. My parents came in to Nashville. We went to the mellow mushroom and walked around downtown Franklin. We are chocolate and strawberry ice cream cake. I had a wonderful day with my family and I am always so thankful for them. I hope your weekend is going just as lovely as well.

Happy Mother's Day

Matt and I love our moms so much. Even though we are far apart, they are always close to our heart. Thanks for all that you do and we can't wait to back with you both this summer! Xoxo

A Thursday

Yesterday, my students did mock interviews. I had a meeting after school. I went to the gym. I went to happy hour and had a lot of fun. I also finished The Pillars of the Earth.
This happened...
And then later on this happened...

Happy Friday, everyone!

A Tuesday

Today:
School is nearing the end. I went to the gym. I sat outside with the dogs and read. Then Matt came home and we talked and enjoyed the weather. When we came in, I played with Butters and the bear for ten minutes and laughed. Then Matt put on this bandana and I laughed a lot more.

April Poetry Month

April was national poetry month! We did a lot of different poetry activities with the students to try and prep them for their EOC exam but also to introduce them to the various aspects of poetry. Here are some of the things we did:
Sensory details and imagery
Figurative language
Tone and mood
Author's purpose
Rhetorical devices and protest poetry
Found poetry
Blackout poetry

Take a look at some of the great things my students created! I was so proud of the protest poems they created. I hope you are able to read them!
